2. Be Prepared
Know your material inside and out (lines, song, monologue, portfolio, etc.).
Bring any required items (headshots, resumes, sheet music, scripts, or portfolio pieces).

Arrive early—punctuality shows respect.
Greet the panel confidently and politely.
Make eye contact, smile, and project confidence (even if you’re nervous).
4. Show Professionalism
Listen carefully to instructions and follow directions.
Be flexible and willing to adjust if asked.
5. Control What You Can
Warm up your voice, body, or camera skills beforehand.
Stay calm—nerves are normal, but preparation helps.
Focus on giving your best performance, not comparing yourself to others.

Our students have access to a unique curriculum that is geared towards preparing them for careers or further study in their arts area. Instead of taking basic arts overview classes, our students take technique and skill classes that are unique to our magnet pathways. Each semester they contribute to a portfolio that can be used to audition for scholarships or apply for specialized programs. Our students have the opportunity to take classes and workshops with visiting guest artists. We currently offer opportunities for students to achieve a Career Tech Credential in 2 of our magnet pathways. We offer Pre-AP and AP classes in our other magnet pathways. We will be implementing another Career Tech Credential opportunity and Dual Enrollment college courses in several of our pathways in the 26-27 school year.

Students must apply online during a designated application window. After completing the online application, students must participate in the “Next Step” process in order to be eligible for selection. The “Next Step” is dependent on the magnet program and may be an audition or portfolio presentation. A holistic review of the student’s grade average and next step score will determine the overall score. Students with a qualifying score will be eligible for selection. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats available the selection will be made by lottery that is weighted by race and committee score. Please see huntsvillecityschoools.org/magnet for more information on the magnet application windows.
