Photography
The photography magnet here at Lee High School is a program centered around creative expression, technical skill, and artistic independence. Creative expression comes through a variety of projects and assignments that push students to think outside the box to create captivating art pieces. In each project there is a technical skill that is partnered with creativity. Students should leave the program with extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom as well how to efficiently use a DSLR camera. When students graduate, they should have an extensive and diverse portfolio that showcases their personal artistic style. Students that excel in this program are open to new ideas, eager to learn, and excited to create art.

"As a student who came from Columbia High School to the Lee program, I can certainly say it was life-changing. I didn't expect there to be much of a difference until teachers actually started showing interest in me. There is no such thing as an "ordinary assignment." Our teachers assign us classwork to push us out of our comfort zone and to express our creative side. By joining a magnet strand, many new opportunities arise simply by being in the magnet. We are also very fortunate to have the opportunity to branch out onto other strands. I'm a photography student and I'm taking a ceramics and theatre class next semester, which I'm very excited to partake in!"

"Being in the photography magnet has truly been one of the best experiences of my high school years. From the very beginning, I’ve learned so much—from understanding the basics of how a camera works to diving into all the different projects that push us to grow and get better. Every assignment has challenged me in a new way and helped me develop my own style and confidence as a photographer. Looking back, I can see how far I’ve come, not just with my technical skills, but also with the way I view the world through the lens. A huge part of that growth is thanks to Mr. Malone. He’s not only an amazing teacher, but also fun, funny, and always willing to help. He makes the classroom a place where learning feels exciting instead of overwhelming, and he really cares about each of his students. His guidance has been a big reason why I’ve grown so much in my photography career, and I’m so grateful to have the chance to be part of this program."

"Through the Lee High School magnet program, I have learned a lot about both photography and physical art. It has given me much freedom in taking classes that adhere to my interests, and it gives students many opportunities to display their work and use acquired skills outside of school. Another great thing about Lee is that the teachers genuinely care about students and want to see them succeed. These things are what have made my experience at Lee worthwhile."
